The purpose of the Environmental Issues Committee is to promote civic responsibility by creating awareness and opportunities for MJC students, staff and faculty to address environmental issues. This includes but is not limited to the operation of MJC as a sustainable model of energy and materials use. Presently, our primary focus is to reduce, reuse and recycle all aspects of our waste flow and to create a consciousness among our community members of the positive effects such activities will have on our environment.

Earth Day Poster, Apr 14, 2010

For forty years, people have celebrated Earth Day each year as a way of bringing people together to learn about the environment and to teach each other how to be good environmental stewards. Earth Day 2010 is a time for reflection and looking toward the future. The MJC Civic Engagement Project – Project Green will host its fourth annual Earth Day celebration on Wednesday April 14th, 2010 from 10:00am till 2:00pm on Modesto Junior College’s East Campus Quad. This is a free all ages environmental education event. This year’s Earth Day at MJC will feature a photography display of recent and past Earth Days at MJC. This event will provide many ideas of how to green your commute, your garden, your office, your dinner table and your community. There will be plenty of activities for children including science demonstrations, a solar telescope, seed planting and art projects. Together, let’s explore where a green future can take us!
