Fall is Free at MJC, Free Tuition for Fall 2022*

Is MJC Really Free for Me? Yes.

Free tuition and zero fees for every student registered for classes for Fall 2022.* Students must apply to attend MJC and complete the appropriate financial aid application. (Students do not need to qualify for financial aid to receive free tuition.)

How do I apply to Modesto Junior College?

Open a CCC account and submit an application. MJC will receive your application electronically and send updates to your @my.yosemite.edu email account. Skip this step if you are a returning student who has attended MJC in the last 12 months.

I don't think I qualify for financial aid. Should I apply?

Yes, completion of a financial aid application is required to participate in the free tuition program.

Which financial aid application should I complete?

FAFSA: If you are a citizen, legal permanent resident, eligible non-citizen or T-Visa holder complete a 22/23 FAFSA.
CADAA: If you are an AB540/SB 68 eligible student who is undocumented, DACAmented, a U Visa holder or TPS holder
complete a 22/23 CADAA
CALIFORNIA COLLEGE PROMISE GRANT: If you are a California resident, AB540 or AB1899 eligible student or homeless youth as determined by the MJC Financial Aid office complete a 22/23 CCPG application.

How many units can I take for free in Fall 2022?

There is no maximum (or minimum) number of free tuition courses for Fall 2022.

I am a high school student. Do I qualify for free tuition?

Yes. Dual Enrollment students, high school students who are concurrently enrolled at MJC, are eligible for free tuition and fees for Fall 2022.

Do I have to be a citizen to qualify for free tuition?

No. There is no citizenship or residency requirement for participation in the Free for Me, free tuition program.

Is the college course material fee "free" as part of the Free for Me, free tuition program?

Yes.

Is parking also free for students in Fall 2022?

Yes, A parking permit will not be required when parking in student spaces on both East and West Campus.

I've registered for free Fall 2022 courses. Why do I see a balance on due on my account?

Students will see a balance due on their account until it has been verified that they have completed the required financial aid application(s) to qualify for free tuition. Once verified, the account balance will be waived. Payment is not required to register for classes, however, if you do not submit a completed financial aid application by December 31, 2022, you will be responsible for any outstanding tuition or fees for the Fall 2022 semester. (All students are eligible to receive free tuition and zero student fees. Students do not have to qualify to receive financial aid to qualify for free tuition and zero student fees.)

My student account shows a balance due for tuition fees. What do I need to do to have Fall 2022 tuition fees waived?

Students who have not submitted a financial aid application and have a balance due on their account will not be able to register for the next semester.

Students are required to submit a financial aid application to receive free tuition and zero student fees for the Fall 2022 semester*. If you have not or are unsure if you’ve completed and submitted a FAFSA or CADAA or CCPG application for the Fall 2022 semester follow the steps below. If a completed financial aid application is not submitted by December 31, 2022, the student will be responsible for any outstanding tuition or fees and will be blocked from registering for classes next semester.

Check your account balance in PiratesNet or contact the MJC Business Services office at 209-575-6828 or mjcbusinessoffice@mjc.edu

- If your account shows zero ($0.00) balance due
  - Tuition fees have been waived and you will be able to register for the upcoming semester on your scheduled registration date and time. You’re done!
- If your account shows a balance due
  - MJC has either not received your financial aid application or additional information is required to complete your application. Complete Step 2 to have tuition fees waived and your account balance returned to zero.

2. Complete the FAFSA, CADAA or California Promise Grant Application online.

- For help with your application contact a Financial Aid Specialist or attend a Financial Aid Workshop. Once the application is completed and submitted tuition fees will be waived.
  - All students are eligible to receive free tuition and zero student fees. Students must only submit the application. They do not have to qualify to receive financial aid to receive for free tuition and zero student fees.
- If you choose NOT to participate in the Free for Me, Free Tuition Program and choose NOT to submit a financial aid application complete Step 3 below.

3. Pay the outstanding balance shown on your account.

- Payments can be made online, in-person or by mail.

Your student account must have a zero balance by your registration date/time for the upcoming semester or you will NOT be able to register for classes.

*Free tuition was not offered for the Summer 2022 term. If your student account shows a balance due for Summer 2022 you are responsible to pay the amount due.

How are these programs being funded?

The MJC is Free for Me- Free Tuition program is funded by Modesto Junior College's institutional portion of federal COVID-19 relief funding (HEERF).

* Program restrictions: MJC free tuition campaign applies to Fall 2022 enrollment only (includes late start courses). A CCC Application and a 2022-2023 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a 2022-2023 California Dream Act Application (CADAA) with an official Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is required. Mandatory student fees are paid under Free for Me program. Parking and other fees are excluded and will not be paid by the college.

**Proof of an address within California is required for enrollment in online courses.
