Step 4: English & Math Assessment

Math and English Assessments are offered during a four-hour assessment appointment block.  While most students take both the Math and English Assessment in the same sitting, students may choose to take only one assessment at a time. 
    • If you have already successfully completed English and/or Math courses at another college or university within the United States and are planning to enroll in an English or Math course or a course that has an English or Math as a prerequisite, then your previous coursework must be approved by submitting your official transcripts and completing the Prerequisite Clearance Request Form

What to Bring:

You are required to present one valid (unexpired) government-issued photo ID with your signature (i.e. driver's license, passport, state ID, national ID, or military ID). School and company issued ID's are not acceptable


If you do not bring an acceptable ID as described, or your identity cannot be verified due to an illegible or damaged ID, you will not be able to test!

Arrival Time:

Allow additional time for locating the campus and for parking (including purchasing a $2.00 day use permit) if you are not familiar with the test site.

WALK-IN Availability on EAST or WEST Campus in the Student Services Pathway Centers (some availability maybe be limited).

  • No Large bags, backpacks, or books permitted in test area
  • No calculators or other reference materials permitted in test area
  • No food or drink allowed in testing lab--let us know if you have any medical needs
  • No type of electronic devices (cell phones, thumb drives, etc.) permitted in test area
  • No children or family members are allowed in the Testing Center during exam times

English Assessment:

  • Consists of computerized Reading Comprehension and Sentence Skills
  • Results are available immediately upon completion
  • Test Duration:  The English test takes approximately one hour, but there is no time limit 

Math Assessment:

  • There are three (3) tests on the math assessment:
    Arithmetic, Elementary Algebra and College Level Math
  • Results are available immediately upon completion
  • Test Duration:  These tests may take approximately one hour, but there is no time limit
