Dear MJC Community,

I am thrilled to share that during Fall 2024 semester Modesto Junior College is providing our community with the greatest level of access to education since 2019-2020. As of census, September 9th, we are serving an incredible an incredible number of students through their academic journeys. Exactly how many you may be wondering

  • 19,329 students
  • 1,706 class sections
  • Taught by 561 faculty
  • 6,079 full-time equivalent students

This achievement is a testament to your unwavering dedication, hard work, and commitment to providing an exceptional educational experience for our students. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, and I am incredibly proud of what we are accomplishing together. While we know there are even more students wanting to be served, let’s take a moment to appreciate this achievement.

Modesto Junior College is a great community to be part of.  Each in their own way, we all want to be part of a greater community, as do students when they report through the  Student Climate Survey that 46% want more social opportunities on campus and 11% want more interaction outside the classroom. If each of us could tailor our efforts to address these reports, we would demonstrate how much we care about student feedback. We might consider hosting program, department, or School-level gatherings to promote community and further everyone’s sense of belonging. We might hold office hours outside of offices, in locations like the Library and Learning Center, Student Center, or quad. Enjoying lunch in these and other common areas could also further the interaction students have with us in a more casual atmosphere. Providing pizza for a student gathering comes with a small price but returns huge dividends.

We recently completed our first annual cycle of assessment under the goals of the  2023-2028 Strategic Plan. Presentations have been given at both Senates and will be given to the Board of Trustees tomorrow. The  Strategic Plan Progress Report is available for your review online.

Additionally, in anticipation of the upcoming faculty hiring season, the  2024-2025 Institutional Outlook Report is available to guide discussion about faculty hiring decisions and the report is also on upcoming agendas.

Thank you for your dedication and passion for education. Let’s keep pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve!

With gratitude,

Patrick
