mjc students at a campus event

Dear Modesto Junior College Community,

Yesterday was another fulfilling and invigorating day to serve MJC.  The ACCJC accreditation peer review team was on campus from 8:00am to 4:15pm, and the time was filled with positive remarks from them and from campus-wide participants who reported their optimism about the current state and future of MJC.

To everyone who participated, thank you.  Accreditation provides a time to reflect and report on the status of the college, and through your contributions to the Institutional Self-evaluation Report, open forums, and small group interviews, you reported your experiences with the honesty and integrity that marks a quality review.

While the official determination of ACCJC won’t be communicated until January 2025, the visiting team stated their satisfaction with Core Inquiry 1 regarding strategic planning and reporting, and they expressed some continued concern with Core Inquiry 2 related to regular substantive interaction in online education.   Regardless of the final determination in January, MJC has the dedication and fortitude to make the adjustments needed in the best interest of students while simultaneously satisfying accreditation standards.

Modesto Junior College is the first college in a region spanning New York to Palau to renew its accreditation under ACCJC’s new standards.  In the same way that we demonstrated bold leadership by embracing the new standards, we will be a model that other colleges will follow as we respond to feedback pertaining to regular substantive interaction.

Again, thank you to faculty, staff, students, and administration for your efforts in preparing for the visit, participating in discussions, and showcasing the strengths of our college.  Together, we have demonstrated the strength and resilience of Modesto Junior College. Let us continue to build on this success and work towards an even brighter future for our students and community.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Patrick
