Overview
Economics is a discipline that studies how people make decisions in a world of scarce
resources. Economics helps us understand how the society functions. It involves a
broad range of topics, including health, education, welfare, crime, inequality, agriculture,
the environment, labor markets, public finance and policy. Economists use theoretical
models and empirical data to inform public policy, household and business decisions.
Careers for economics majors include various roles in businesses, law, government,
non-profit organizations, international relations, and academia.
The Associate in Arts in Economics for Transfer (AA-T) Degree is designed for
students who plan to transfer and complete a bachelor’s degree in economics or a related
field at a California State University campus. Students completing this degree are
guaranteed admission with junior status to the CSU System and given priority admission
to their local CSU, but are not guaranteed admission to a particular campus or major.
Students intending to transfer to a particular CSU campus or to a university or college
that is not part of the CSU system should consult the specific transfer requirements
of the campus to which they are applying.
