Biography
Piano Instructor, MJC 2024-2025. A concert artist and professor of piano, Dr. Sarah Chan engages an international artistry and teaching experience that extends across North and South Americas, Europe, and Asia, as well as remotely to Africa. As concert pianist, Chan has performed at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Berlin Philharmonic Hall, National Philharmonic of Ukraine,Salle Cortot-Paris, St. James Piccadilly-London, Künstlerhaus-Munich, Sala Atenu-Romania,Teatro Municipal de Las Condes-Santiago, Beifang Performing Arts Hall, and Ningxia Normal University Concert Hall in China. Awards of national, institutional, and professionaldistinction. Awards include: The American Prize in Piano Performance “Rising Artist” honor ofNew York Concert Artists and Associates PianoTexas Festival ProfessionalPrize; U.S. Presidential ScholarDistinguished Teacher Award California State University-Stanislaus Outstanding ProfessorFaculty Award California State University-Stanislaus Outstanding Research,Scholarship and Creative Activity Faculty Award Award for Excellence inTeaching at the Eastman School of Music CAPMT State Outstanding Member Award of MTNA. Dr. Chan taught piano at Modesto Junior College (2024-2025) while also serving as Lecturer in Music (Piano) at Stanford University and asAssociate Professor of Music (Leyboard Studies/Theory) and Coordinator ofKeyboard Studies at California State University, Stanislaus. Engaging multidimensional expertisein interpretive, creative, and interdisciplinary expressions of the musical arts, Dr. Chan has conducted masterclasses throughout the U.S., Canada,Ukraine, China, Chile, and Ghana. She hasserved as adjudicator of numerous competitions including Enkor International Competition,The American Prize, and U.S. Open Competitions. Chan served as national Board Member for Performance and Chair of the Performance Council at The College Music Society from 2022-2024. Sarah Chan received her musical training at the Eastman School of Music (D.M.A.), Le Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (Paris Conservatory of Music-graduate studies), PeabodyConservatory of Music (M.M.), Manhattan School of Music (B.M.), and theUniversity of Michigan. Chan engaged liberal arts studies, with a concentrationin French and French literature, at the University of Michigan, Columbia University, and La Sorbonne.
