Intervention strategies used to fight the bite: Monitoring mosquito abundance in the Central Valley
Nov. 15 at 7:30pm in the Sierra Hall, room 132
Sarah Wheeler was introduced to the world of mosquito control while studying the role of wild birds in the spread of West Nile virus. She went on to earn a PhD at the University of California, Davis, investigating the overwintering mechanisms of West Nile virus. Sarah began working as the Biologist at Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District in 2015 where she conducted applied research on mosquito control.
Currently, she is the Laboratory Director at the District and oversees the surveillance arm of the District’s operations where she works to provide actionable data that is used to select and implement mosquito control interventions to protect the public from nuisance mosquitoes and mosquito-borne pathogens.
MAPS (Modesto Area Partners in Science) host several presentations from professionals in the science industry every semester for free. Each discussion is open to the public and takes place in Sierra Hall 132 at 7:30pm. Learn more about MAPS and how we partner with scientists and researchers locally.
