Become a Commencement Speaker

Modesto Junior College's Annual Commencement (Graduation) Ceremony will be Friday, May 2, 2025.

As part of our commencement celebrations, Class of 2025 graduates are invited to apply for the role of Student Speaker and address their classmates, on stage, during the commencement ceremony. 

All Student Speaker Applications will be accepted and be evaluated on the following criteria: 

• Content
  • appropriateness, relevance, and significance;
  • organization of speech with a clear and concise message;
  • creativity and originality;
  • focus on all students in the graduating class (avoid only focusing on self).

 

• Effectiveness of Delivery
  • delivery within 5 minutes
    • eloquence of deliver;
    • appropriate volume;
    • energy and personality;
    • formal, yet conversational delivery style;
    • correct grammar.

Selected applicants will go through audition process scheduled for March 6-7 on West Campus in the Mary Stuart Rogers building. The successful candidate will submit the final speech, a photo, and a biography for the Commencement program.
