Upon satisfactory completion of The Automotive Brakes and Suspension Certificate of Achievement Award, the student should be prepared to: Demonstrate compliance with current automotive industry safety and environmental standards. Perform maintenance and repair operations to vehicle braking and suspension systems in accordance with ASE standards.

Upon satisfactory completion of the Automotive Diagnosis Certificate of Achievement, the student should be prepared to: Demonstrate compliance with current automotive safety and environmental standards and diagnose and repair automotive drivability problems in accordance with ASE standards.

Upon satisfactory completion of the Automotive Engines and Transmissions Certificate of Achievement, the student should be prepared to: Demonstrate compliance with current automotive industry safety and environmental standards. Perform maintenance and repair operations to automotive engines and transmissions in accordance with ASE standards.

Upon satisfactory completion of the Automotive Certificate of Achievement, the student should be prepared to: Demonstrate compliance with current automotive industry safety and environmental standards. Perform routine vehicle service operations in accordance with ASE standards.

The Automotive Technology program is a sequence of courses designed to prepare students for entry level employment opportunities in the automotive service industry. In addition to gaining the skills required to maintain, diagnose and repair automobiles successful students will have received the knowledge needed to prepare them for the nationally recognized Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) examinations. Upon satisfactory completion of the Automotive Technician A.S. Degree, the student should be prepared to: Demonstrate compliance with current automotive industry safety and environmental standards. Perform maintenance and repair operations in accordance with ASE standards.

In this program, students will develop additional skills and knowledge to enter the diesel mechanics field. Contact the division office in the Agriculture Building for advising assistance.

The Basic Machining award is designed to provide training on manual and computer operated machine tools (CNC). Students will receive instruction on the theory and practice of turning, milling and the use of precision measuring equipment.

The study of biology includes various aspects of life, including basic organization (molecular, cellular, tissues, organs), how organisms function, their roles in the natural environment, transfer and mutation of hereditary information, evolution, and the development and applications of biotechnology. To earn an Associate in Arts Degree with an emphasis in biology, students must complete coursework and other requisites detailed in the Associate Degree Requirements. In addition to these general education requirements are biological science core courses and elective coursework, as described in the Associate in Arts Degree for Biology. By fulfilling the requirements of the MJC emphasis in biology, students will also be completing some or all lower-division preparation for baccalaureate major at the university. ASSIST (www.assist.org) is a statewide database of recorded transfer agreements between community colleges and universities. Students are advised to use ASSIST in selecting courses from the emphasis to ensure that the coursework applies to your baccalaureate major. Core biology courses and electives have been specifically designed to fulfill requirements for MJC graduation, and for articulation with universities and other academic institutions throughout the US, and in many cases, overseas.

The Associate in Science in Biology for Transfer (AST) degree is designed to prepare students for transfer to a California State University to pursue a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Biology or a Biology-related discipline by providing students with the core curriculum required in the first two years of a Biology major college experience. The basis for any biological sciences degree requires courses in a general biology series (organismal, ecology, evolution, molecular and cellular biology), chemistry, calculus and physics. The Associate in Science in Biology for Transfer degree program is intended and designed to make the transfer of Modesto Junior College students to CSU seamless. The requirements of this degree align with the Transfer Model Curriculum. It is the most efficient pathway for students desiring to transfer to CSU as a Biology-related major in a timely manner. Students completing the Associate in Science in Biology for Transfer Degree (AST in Biology) are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus or major. Students transferring to a CSU campus that does accept this degree will be required to complete no more than 60 units after transfer to earn a bachelor’s degree. Students should consult with a counselor to determine whether this degree is the best option for their transfer goals.

The Associate in Science (A.S.) in Business Administration degree is intended for students who plan to transfer to a University of California (UC) campus or other four year college outside of the California State University (CSU) system. This degree includes lower division coursework required for transfer and provides students with foundational insight into the complexities of the contemporary business environment. Coursework in the areas of accounting, business law, and economics will equip students to recognize and analyze business, financial, and ethical issues in order to make informed decisions. Students seeking transfer to a CSU campus should refer to the Associate in Science Transfer (A.S.-T.) degree. In all cases, students should consult with a counselor for more information on university admission and transfer requirements.

The Associate in Science in Business Administration for Transfer 2.0 (AS-T) degree is intended for students who plan to complete a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at a California State University (CSU) campus. This degree includes lower division coursework required for transfer and provides students with foundational insight into the complexities of the contemporary business environment. Coursework in the areas of accounting, business law, and economics will equip students to recognize and analyze business, financial, and ethical issues in order to make informed decisions. Students who transfer to a CSU campus will be able to pursue a bachelor’s degree with emphasis in areas such as accounting, finance, general business, computer information systems, human resources management, international business, entrepreneurship, operations management, and marketing. This degree may not be the best option for students intending to transfer to a university or college that is not part of the CSU system. Students should consult with a counselor for more information on university admission and transfer requirements.

The Business Information Technology Level 1 Certificate offers students an intermediate foundation in Microsoft Windows and Office as well as business communication and financial literacy which are critical to the workplace. Completion of the Business Information Technology Level 1 Certificate prepares students for the Business Information Technology Level 2 A.S. Degree or Certificate.

The Business Information Technology Level 2 Associate Degree offers students a solid foundation in Microsoft Windows and Office as well as strong digital and web literacy skills that ensures job candidates have the productivity skills employers are looking for. Completion of the Business Information Technology pathway also brings indispensable critical thinking, problem solving, and interpersonal skills to the workplace.

The Business Information Technology Level 2 Certificate offers students a solid foundation in Microsoft Windows and Office as well as strong digital and web literacy skills that ensures job candidates have the productivity skills employers are looking for. Completion of the Business Information Technology pathway also brings indispensable critical thinking, problem solving, and interpersonal skills to the workplace. Completion of the Business Information Technology Level 2 Certificate as well as the MJC Associate Degree requirements will qualify the student for the Business Information Technology Level 2 A.S. Degree.

The Business Information Technology Quick Start Certificate offers students the ability to gain and/or update skills in current technology used in the workplace. It is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in a variety of fields and businesses. Completion of the Business Information Technology Quick Start Certificate is the first tier of the Business Information Technology Levels 1 & 2 pathways.

The Business Operations major is designed for those students seeking an A.S. degree in management and/or marketing activities of organizations. The major offers two separate tracks for those students wishing to specialize in either area. The Management track in Business Operations will prepare students for careers in both profit and nonprofit organizations. The basic functions of management are applied in organizations of all sizes and types. These functions include planning, organization, directing, and controlling. Students will learn the theory and techniques of problem solving, communication, motivation, and quality performance. The AS in Business Operations Management will prepare students for careers in both for-profit and nonprofit organizations. The basic functions of management are applied in organizations of all sizes and types. These functions include planning, organization, directing, and controlling. Students will learn the theory and techniques of problem solving, communication, motivation, quality performance, as well as ethical issues faced by managers.
