The Modesto Junior College “Honoring of our Youth” Intertribal Powwow 2025 is a social gathering that brings together Native American communities from various tribes within California and throughout Turtle Island (USA) to celebrate and honor their cultural heritage here on Yokuts and Me - Wuk peoples’ land. This event serves as a platform for dancing, singing, feasting, and the exchange of arts, crafts, and traditions, fostering unity and cultural pride among participants. In addition, this powwow will provide an opportunity to uphold and share tribal customs, languages, and values, ensuring their preservation for future generations. While rooted in indigenous traditions, MJC’s powwow is open to the public, inviting non - Native attendees to experience and appreciate the rich cultural expressions of Native American peoples.

I am 15 years old, Dine/Mexica/Apache. I am currently serving as Richmond’s powwow princess. I have been dancing all my life and have danced jingle and fancy. I am involved in the local native community for drum and dance practices. In addition, to my academic responsibilities and club president commitments, I am also a member of the cross-country track & field team at my high school. My aspirations extend beyond high school, I intend to join the Navy and serve in the medical field and continue my work within our native community.
Thunderhead - We are a collection of families from the Tejon, Tule River, Tachi, Cheyenne River, Lakota, Apache, and Navajo Tribes who were raised as dancers in the powwow arena. We danced and went to ceremony, learning from family, teachers, and elders. We found each other in the arena and decided to take what we were given by the people and return it to them. As we grow in our strength and understanding of our gifts and responsibilities to our community, we do so in gratitude for those that have suffered to lift us up. Thunderhead thanks this year’s committee for the opportunity to share our songs as host northern drum responsibility. With great pride we share this gift with the people.
