Modesto Junior College and the Modesto Fire department are partnering to provide a
one day specialized camp. The program is designed to inspire and educate young women
about careers in firefighting and emergency services. The Camp will allow the campers
to learn from professional women firefighters from fire departments throughout the
state of California. This will be available to girls aged 14-21 free of charge.
The camp aims to provide hands-on experience, training, and mentorship opportunities led by professionals in the fire service. It creates a supportive environment where participants can learn firefighting techniques, understand the challenges and rewards of the profession, and gain confidence in their abilities.
Beyond skills training, these camps emphasize empowerment by fostering leadership qualities, teamwork, and resilience among young women. This camp will include activities such as fire drills, equipment demonstrations, physical fitness training, and discussions about career pathways and opportunities within the fire service.
Overall, the Women's Empowerment Camp serves as a platform to encourage and equip
young women to pursue careers in firefighting and emergency services, breaking barriers
and promoting diversity within these essential fields.
The Modesto Fire Department is partnering with the Modesto Junior College to hold our very first camp on October 5th, 2024 at the MJC Regional Fire Training Center located at 1220 Fire Science Ln, Modesto, CA 95351.
