Dear MJC Students,

Recent federal actions and media coverage about potential large-scale federal deportation efforts have created significant concern and anxiety among students. Our college’s mission, vision, and values remain unchanged. We are committed to the success of each student, regardless of immigration status or circumstances. MJC staff, faculty, and leadership are here to support you and stand resolutely in reaffirming the following principles:

  • MJC is open to all students who meet the minimum requirements for admission, regardless of immigration status. We remain committed to inclusivity and diversity and to supporting students in reaching their educational goals.
  • MJC and YCCD Leadership will continue to advocate at all levels of government for the educational opportunities of our diverse student population.
  • MJC will continue to operate under YCCD Board Policy 5040 ensuring that “No student information shall be disclosed for immigration enforcement purposes without a court order or judicial warrant.” (Section IV, p3, lines 33-34)

There is no indication that Federal Immigration Agents will visit Modesto Junior College. However, should you find yourself unexpectedly confronted by a Federal Immigration Agent it is important to have an understanding of what actions can be taken. To assist students with this, we have created a Know Your Rights web page on the MJC website.  There you’ll find rules, regulations, and resources, including a step-by-step guide of what you can do and say to a Federal Immigration Agent.

During this stressful time, we encourage you to educate yourself on your rights and connect with a trusted resource on campus for additional support. Together, we can continue to create a campus culture that empowers all students to succeed and reach their educational goals.

Sincerely,

Brian K. Sanders, Ed.D.

President
