How to Apply

We are currently recruiting eligible MJC students who want to join a support network towards obtaining a certificate, associate degree, and transfer to a 4-year university.

Requirements

Students joining the TRIO SSS Program must be:

  • First-generation college student (neither parent has completed a four-year college degree) and/or low-income, according to guidelines established by the US Department of Education (Income verification will be requested) and/or have a verified disability.
  • Must transfer to a 4-year university
  • Have less than 24 transferable units
  • Minimum High School or College GPA of 2.00
  • Accepted for new enrollment at Modesto Junior College or currently enrolled as a full-time student at MJC

*Successful applicants must demonstrate academic potential and personal motivation to transfer to a four-year college or university.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does first-generation mean?

First-generation is defined as any student whose parents/legal guardians, have not graduated from a four-year institution of higher education. 

How income based is defined?

Income based status is based on the guidelines published annually by the U.S. Department of Education. The term “low-income individual” means an individual whose family’s  taxable income for the preceding year did not exceed 150 percent of the poverty level amount.

How does a student "document" a disability?

Students provide medical and/or professional verification to our office. For more information and additional services visit the Accommodations and Support Center (ASC) in Student Services Building, Room 112.
