Exam Testing Accommodation for ASC Students

Explanation: The Accommodations and Support Center (ASC) advocates to provide equal access to students with disabilities at Modesto Junior College. Through collaboration with the campus community, the provision of academic adjustments and specialized services support students holistically, and their personal and educational goals are achieved through appropriate and reasonable accommodations. To facilitate this goal, this document is created to assist faculty with testing considerations.

Explore other testing options before requesting test proctoring including online exams. Check if:

  1. Quizzes/exams should be proctored.
  2. Faculty have determined reasons to omit an alternative assessment.
  3. Faculty have determined Canvas is not a good option for assessment.
  4. Attempts to make arrangements with faculty and staff in your department were unsuccessful.
  5. Other attempts to resolve testing conflicts have been exhausted.
  6. Quizzes/Tests require Zoom or on-campus proctoring.
  7. Proctorio is not an option for the quiz/test.
  8. There are no alternative options to replace quiz/exam.
  9. Quiz/test have date restrictions.
  10. List of recommended alternatives will not work for the quiz/test.
  11. Contact ASC to support you in proctoring your test. ASC is a resource to faculty and is committed to developing strategies that promote student success.

Some alternatives to testing

  • Take-home exams/open book (can work for math courses as well as others)
  • Speech or presentation/oral exams
  • Remote group projects
  • Peer review projects and activities
  • An Essay or reflective paper that covers topics
  • Explanation sheet of selected topics
  • Combination of the above alternatives
  • Other authentic assessments, including critiques or short-answer exams
