Modesto Junior College provides students and alumni free access to the newest online job posting platform JOBSPEAKER. Jobspeaker does something that no other web app does.  It helps you in every phase of your job search by allowing you to save jobs you find, and track all your job search information, tasks, and events in one place. Allowing you to search for jobs anywhere from your computer or phone.  

Currently enrolled, alumni or transferred from Modesto Junior College 

  1. Create an account on Jobspeaker
  2. Apply online from a computer or the mobile application via the Jobspeaker App on your smart phone.
  3. When actively job seeking, check your Jobspeaker account often.

How do I get a job without any experience? How do I get experience without having a job? This is a dilemma many students face as they prepare to enter the workforce in their field of study. Work-Based Learning allows students to combine their classroom learning with professional work experience.

You’ll focus on:

1. Continue to search and participate in opportunities that will help you develop the qualities and skills employers are looking for such as leadership, analytical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills.

    • Join a student organization, volunteer, or obtain a job that will provide you with an opportunity to learn and engage in a professional environment.

2. Expand portfolio to include volunteer activities, student organization participation, completed certificates and employment (Exploration & Preparation activities).

3. Research internship options and develop and internship on your own or with the help of Career Services Center staff.

4. Expand professional network through networking opportunities.

    • Attend a Career Fair or Mixer
    • Join a professional organization in relation to field of study

Employment Scam Alert

If you are invited to apply for work from an unsolicited email STOP and check to make sure the request is not coming from scammers. Scammers use email or text messages to trick you into giving them your personal information. Scams can vary widely, below are a few suggestions to help you avoid some common ones:

  • Remember the old saying, " If its too good to be true, it probably is"
  • Do not pay money up front
  • Do not accept payment for services you have not provided (example: as a "pre-payment or expected services)
  • Be cautious of people who are unwilling or unable to meet in person
  • Be cautious of job postings or emails that are poorly written example: poor grammar, lack of sentence structure, text in all caps or bold 
  • Be wary of job offers from strangers. If you have not applied for the position or interviewed for the position, it is likely a scam
