In this hands-on workshop, students will learn how to craft a compelling resume and cover letter that highlight their skills, experience, and strengths. We'll cover formatting tips, keyword optimization, and strategies to tailor applications for specific jobs.

This interactive orientation is designed to prepare new student employees for success in their on-campus roles. Whether you are assisting in student services, academic departments, or other campus offices, this workshop provides the essential knowledge and tools needed to navigate your workplace responsibilities with confidence and professionalism. Students will learn what's expected of them and what they can expect in return, including supportive supervision, feedback opportunities, and real-world skill-building. A brief overview of timekeeping procedures will also be covered, including how to accurately track work hours and submit time sheets on time.
This workshop is for students who are currently holding a position as an MJC student worker, or currently have a start date. You are only required to attend one time.

How do I get a job without any experience? How do I get experience without having a job? This is a dilemma many students face as they prepare to enter the workforce in their field of study. Work-Based Learning allows students to combine their classroom learning with professional work experience.
You’ll focus on:
1. Continue to search and participate in opportunities that will help you develop the qualities and skills employers are looking for such as leadership, analytical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills.
2. Expand portfolio to include volunteer activities, student organization participation, completed certificates and employment (Exploration & Preparation activities).
3. Research internship options and develop and internship on your own or with the help of Career Services Center staff.
4. Expand professional network through networking opportunities.
