The Modesto Junior College (MJC) School of Health Professions offers degree and certificate programs which are designed to prepare students for a career in specific health care occupations. The programs range from one semester to two academic years in length. There are five areas of study within the School of Health Professions: Associate Degree Nursing, Advanced Placement Pathway for LVN's and Psych Tech's, Medical Assisting, Nurse Assistant, and Respiratory Care.

Healthcare worker and resident
Nurse Assistant

The Nurse Assistant job skills certificate prepares the student to provide services to those who need health care. The student will learn the role of the caregiver, the healthcare environment, health care safety, adult needs in health and illness, and basic caregiving skills. The mission of the Modesto Junior College Nurse Assistant Program is to provide vocational education that will prepare the student to provide basic services to those who need healthcare. The program is committed to improving and advancing the health and welfare of our community by preparing competent, safe, health care professionals.

Medical Assisting

This program prepares students to take the national certification exam offered by the AAMA to become a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA). Medical assisting students at MJC receive transferable college credit for coursework. Many of the program graduates further their education by obtaining an A.S. Degree in Medical Assisting and/or Nursing.

Respiratory Care

The MJC Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Care prepares students to be competent respiratory therapists with proficiency in practice, education, research, and service. After passing national exams and obtaining licensure, they can work as respiratory therapists. The MJC Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Care improves on that, providing graduates with advanced knowledge and skills to take on leadership roles, pursue education or research careers, or specialize in advanced clinical practice.

Respiratory Care Bachelor's Degree

In accordance with the tenets of the Modesto Junior College Mission Statement, the Mission of the bachelor’s degree program in Respiratory Care is to enhance foundational education in respiratory care, inspire commitment to lifelong professional growth, and advance the standards and ethics of the profession. The faculty and staff of the Respiratory Care Program are aware of and responsive to the health care needs of our community and the changing requirements of the profession. By developing educational partnerships with local health care providers, our program can meet the health care needs of our diverse community.

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program at Modesto Junior College prepares students to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN), leading to licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). The program is approved by the State of California.
