Ability- to- Benefit

If you do not have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent, you may still be eligible for financial aid through an option called Ability-to-Benefit (ATB).  To use this option, you must meet certain eligibility criteria regarding prior college enrollment and can be considered under former Ability-to-Benefit regulations as outlined below. 

If you were enrolled in an eligible postsecondary program prior to July 1, 2012, you can become eligible through one of the ATB alternatives:

• passed an approved ability-to-benefit test, OR
• successfully completed at least six credit hours or equivalent course work toward a degree or certificate (you may not receive aid while earning the six credit hours)
