Unusual Tax Filing Situations
Individuals who fall into one of the IRS Tax categories below must submit the listed
information:
Amended Tax Filers:
Tax Return Transcript or signed copy of the original tax return that was filed with
the IRS,AND
Signed copy of your IRS Form 1040X (Amended U.S. Income Tax Return) that was filed
with the IRS
Non-IRS Tax Returns:(Individuals who filed a tax return in a foreign country, Puerto Rico, or U.S. Territory)
Signed copy of the filed foreign tax return
IRS Identity Theft Victims:
Tax Return Database View (TRDBV) transcript obtained from the IRS. (Contact IRS at
1-800-908-4490);AND
Signed and dated statement by the tax filer indicating that he or she was a victim
of IRS tax-related identity theft and that the IRS is aware of the tax-related theft.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Question: I filed a joint (married) tax return but now I'm separated. What do I submit? Answer: You must submit:
Your joint tax return transcript, AND
All your W-2 statements and all your spouse's W-2 statements
The Student Financial Services staff can subsequently adjust the FAFSA to include
only the pertinent income. Please note that proof of separate residence may be required
(utility bills, signed leases, etc.).
Question: I was single when I filed taxes but I am married now. What do I submit? Answer: You must submit:
Your tax return transcript and your spouse's tax return transcript, AND
All your W-2 statements and all your spouse's W-2 statements
