Chosen Name
Guidelines for Chosen Name, Pronouns, and Gender
Recognizing that many students use chosen name (preferred name) or pronoun other than their legal ones to identify themselves, Modesto Junior College offers the option of the use of a chosen name and pronoun. MJC extends this accommodation in order to help foster a more welcoming, supportive, and respectful campus climate for all students.
Note: The chosen first name is not a legal name change. Students who are legally changing their name should follow the instructions listed at SSN and Name Changes.
- Inappropriate use of a chosen name, including, but not limited to, misrepresentation or attempting to avoid a legal obligation, may be cause for denying a student’s use of the name. The chosen name will appear in many internal locations.
- For additional information, review Student Rights and Responsibilities which include acceptable standards of student conduct and behavior.
