Bus will load by gym, the amazing bus driver Troy Gravatt will take staff to a local
leader in the viticulture industry (20 minute travel time) for a 45 minute tour and
overview followed by an opportunity to look at a specialized career area in their
organization for a 1 hour in depth look at training needed and opportunities to grow.
A closing meeting with the leadership of the organization. Early lunch with about
10:30/11 offsite with one or two key people in the industry. Return to campus with
a full belly and mind. It could be hot, please bring water. We will be in a food processing facility so
dress accordingly, close toed shoes, pants, no tank tops etc. Space is limited.

Lessons Learned: What Students Tell Us About Online Course Design

them, too. As part of his work on the Humanizing Online STEM Academy grant, DE Coordinator
Mike Smedshammer collaborated on a student focus group project examining the Academy’s

Articulation: What it is and Why it Matters

"Transferable" community college courses are often modeled after the same courses
offered at four-year institutions. However, even an identical community college course
outline (COR) is not guaranteed to be accepted by a transfer institution in the way
that we might expect or assume, which can lead to unexpected setbacks and hurdles
for students after transfer.
Articulation is the robust, multi-faceted process by which California community college
courses are deemed "comparable" to courses offered at four-year institutions for the
purpose of satisfying requirements at transfer institutions. In this session, we will
explain the various types of articulation, and provide tools to help you ensure your
course outline has the most transfer value for your students. You’ll also get an overview

MJC’s Incoming GE and your New GE Committee

In Spring of 2024, the Senate and Curriculum Committee worked swiftly to respond to
massive regulation for community general education courses set forth in AB 928. College
efforts included learning about new GE standards for transfer GE curriculum, creating
a revised MJC-GE pattern structure. It also included the implementation of a new GE
Committee, the "GEC" which worked hard throughout the summer to meaningfully evolve

In this presentation, DE Coordinator Mike Smedshammer describes how “stranger danger”
worms its way into online courses and threatens student success. Mike’s work on the
Humanizing Online STEM grant indicates that subtle course design and approach adjustments
can positively affect students and their experiences in our courses. Mike will provide
specific examples that help calm online students so they can engage with course content.
