Welcome to the workshop, designed specifically for nursing educators committed to
advancing student learning, engagement, and clinical judgment. As we continue to navigate
the evolving demands of nursing education, our goal is to equip you with practical
tools grounded in educational theory and evidence-based strategies.
We’ll begin by exploring Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory and Learning Style Inventory,
a foundational framework that helps us better understand how our students absorb and
apply knowledge. By recognizing diverse learning preferences—whether they thrive as
convergers, divergers, assimilators, or accommodators—we can more effectively tailor
instruction, clinical teaching, and assessment.
Next, we’ll transition into a discussion on current best practices in exam design,
focusing on alignment with the NCLEX Test Plan and Clinical Judgment Measurement Model
(CJMM). We'll consider strategies to elevate test items beyond recall-level questions,
thereby improving the validity and reliability of exams and better preparing students
for licensure and practice.
Finally, we’ll dive into active learning through reverse case studies and bow-tie
questions—dynamic tools that promote deeper learning, synthesis of clinical information,
and decision-making. These formats allow students to begin with cues and outcomes,
working backward to construct meaning, prioritize actions, and engage in reflective
practice.

Brave Conversations Via Zoom - Dr. Cheryl Willams-Jackson
In today’s campus climate, moments of tension, misunderstanding, and harm can arise—even
with the best intentions. How we respond matters. This introductory workshop offers
administration, faculty and staff a foundational look at the practice of calling-in—a
respectful, relationship-centered approach to addressing harm that prioritizes growth
over shame.
In just two hours, you’ll:
• Learn what calling-in is (and how it differs from calling-out)
• Explore real-world campus scenarios where calling-in can make a difference
• Reflect on how to respond to conflict with clarity, care, and courage
This is not a deep-dive training, but rather a launch point for meaningful change—a
chance to begin shifting how we engage in difficult conversations in classrooms, meetings,
and campus culture.
