The EOP&S Program benefits greatly from the cooperation and support of MJC Staff and faculty in all departments, from facilities to financial aid to instructors and beyond. Our students thrive and succeed due in large part to a network of support woven throughout the different departments on campus. We have the privilege to recognize those individuals outside of our department who have supported our program and our students in unique and meaningful ways. Nominated by EOP&S department staff, these MJC staff and faculty members have helped to illustrate the enormous value in having "friends of the program".

"The story goes that a young man, walking down a long, unpaved, dusty road to visit a friend, had nothing but a nickel in his pocket. Feeling down on his luck, he noticed two gnarled horseshoe nails lying by the side of the road. He picked them up and put them in his pocket. As he jingled these objects together with his meager fortune, he walked a little bit taller, with a little more pride and dignity."
EOP&S works to enhance self-esteem, foster pride and dignity, and motivate those whom the program serves, enabling them to more effectively define and pursue career goals. It is important that they too have “something to jingle”.
The Nickel & Nail awards were created this year to recognize EOP&S students for their hard work, their positive attitude, and their growth throughout their time in our program.

Pursuing college right after high school is not a decision everyone makes, but for a group of 25 students, this was the path they chose. The College Readiness Program is a six-week learning community for 25 new high school graduates during the summer session. The College Readiness Scholarship is given to a student who demonstrates initiative, motivation, and ambition to pursue a higher education and continues putting effort in future Semesters.

Coming to college is not always an easy journey, especially for students with additional barriers. Each fall and spring semester, a group of 30 students who face a variety of challenges experience a semester together in a program called Bridge. The Bridge Program Scholarship is given to one student who has shown desire, dedication, and discipline while participating in the program. This student may have gone through obstacles or had additional barriers that could've made completing the program and future semesters more challenging.
