Our Health Portal allows students to securely communicate with Health Services providers
and submit and view health forms, like immunization history, tuberculosis (TB) screening
results, and lab results.
Modesto Junior College Health Services is staffed full-time by registered nurses and mental health providers. Providers will evaluate and treat most minor, temporary physical and/or mental health concerns that require short-term care. Many concerns require a referral to a community medical or other service provider, and every effort will be made to assist students in establishing off-site care as needed.

No, MJC does not offer insurance to students. You can obtain more information about insurance options through Covered California. If you are uninsured, have limited insurance, or need help finding a provider, visit Health Services for a list of community clinics/agencies.

Mental health therapy appointments are available by appointment only. To see a nurse, we highly encourage you to make an appointment. Nurses may be available to accommodate walk-ins.

The Yosemite Community College District (YCCD) Board of Trustees has established Student Health Services as an integral part of the college community. The Board’s intent in providing Health Services at Modesto Junior College (MJC) is to monitor and improve the health and safety of the college community and to support student retention and academic success by addressing student health needs. California Education Code (76355) allows a Health Fee to be charged to students at MJC, and this is applied to all students unless they meet exemption criteria. The maximum amount of the Health Fee is outlined by the Education Code, with $1 Cost-of-Living increases allowed when inflationary indexes in California warrant it. Additionally, the Education Code language includes regulations on what services may be provided with Health Fee dollars.
The Health Fee is the primary source of funding for programs offered by the Health Services department. This includes the salaries of professional staff in the health centers established on both MJC campuses. The staff provides individual healthcare services, such as nurse and physician visits, mental health therapy/counseling, as well as health promotion and presentations in classrooms, online, and at campus events. Staff also provides support services towards improving the health of entire college community through public health and risk management interventions, such as emergency preparedness and incident reporting of infectious diseases. Health and wellness needs are often unplanned and unpredictable. The public health funding model, as designed by the Education Code and adopted by the YCCD Board, invests Health Fee dollars towards sustainable and effective health services within the entire college community. When any individual student with a communicable disease is being treated by Health Services, this keeps all students, staff and faculty on our campuses healthier by reducing exposure to infections. If you are injured on campus, you may be referred directly to a provider in Health Services for follow-up. If you are experiencing a mental health challenge, your peers or instructor may refer you to mental health services. Accessible and after-hours mental health services help alleviate anxiety and stress felt by students, peers and faculty, by connecting them with the help they need. Health Services contribute to a healthier educational environment for everyone.
The District currently allows waivers for students that rely exclusively upon prayer for healing. The fee is not charged to students enrolled in the following course types:
Students who have paid the health fee may access Health Services. Whereas many of the students coming into the health centers for this service are economically challenged and do not have health insurance, just as many students DO have health insurance, finding the location convenient, and services timely, private, and without costly co-payments for healthcare visits in the community.
Although you may walk in during our business hours, it is best to call us and make an appointment. Depending on the need or request, appointments can be for remote or in-person services. Walk-in appointments for clinical services are accommodated when possible. Immediate appointments may be available depending on availability of the provider.

YCCD/MJC Employees/Student Workers Injuries: Report your injury to your immediate supervisor and call Company Nurse at 877-854-6877.
MJC Students (including while traveling for off-campus events): Report your injury to your instructor (if in class or on a field trip) or a MJC Campus Safety Officer and complete a Injury Reporting Form. You may also visit Health Services or the MJC Campus Safety office to access the Injury Reporting Form.
What is TB?
Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The
bacteria usually attack the lungs, but TB bacteria can attack any part of the body
such as the kidney, spine, and brain. If not treated properly, TB disease can be fatal.
What is a TB skin test?
A TB test will tell you if you have ever had TB germs in the body. A harmless fluid
is placed under the skin of your arm with a small needle. After the test is administered,
you must return to the clinic so that the nurse can look at the test spot on your
arm. This is called a TB read.
What is the fee for a TB skin test? TB skin tests are $11. Health Services accepts credit card, debit, or exact cash.
Why do I need two TB skin tests?
If you work or will be placed in a medical setting for your program, you may require
the two step TB skin test to ensure a more accurate reading/result.

When can I return for the TB read?
You must be able to return 48-72 hours after the TB test is placed. Please consider our days and hours of operation for TB readings. If you fail to return and you request another test, you must pay a $15 fee.

Yes, in-person TB skin tests are available by appointment. Please contact our office for available appointment dates and times.
How does TB Spread?
TB is spread through the air from one person to another. The TB bacteria are put into
the air when a person with TB disease of the lungs or throat coughs, sneezes, speaks,
or sings. People nearby may breathe in these bacteria and become infected.

A COVID-19 Support Specialist from Human Resources will contact you by email for contract tracing and provide further guidance. (Student workers must fill out both the student form and the employee form).
