MJC Pirate Progam
Purpose:
The purpose of the MJC Pirate Program is to provide MJC classified employees with professional development and training that will educate, encourage, inspire, and motivate. Participants who complete the program will have an increased knowledge of the college infrastructure and how that translates to their departments. Additionally, participants will benefit from personal and professional growth, as well as the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge that may assist in professional advancement.
Influence:
The combination of MJC Disney Training and the need and desire for employee professional development are the primary influences behind this program.
Sessions:
MJC History & Structure
In this session, participants will learn the history and structure of Modesto Junior
College.
Learning Objective: Participants will understand the history of how MJC came to be and the structure
of how YCCD/MJC operate
Time Management & Planning
“I don’t have enough time” is a common statement for working professionals. In this
session, we will explore time management tips and best ways to manage time.
Learning Objective: Participants will learn and be able to utilize new techniques for time management.
Customer Service
In this session, participants will learn new ways to give intentional customer service
based on the lessons of the Disney Institute.

Effects of Decision Making
One challenge in the decision-making process of any institution is understanding the
widespread implications of decisions made on campus. In this session, we will examine
how each area works together to support the institutional mission.
Learning Objective: Participants will learn how and why decisions are made and their role in the decision
making process.
Who Do We Serve: Understanding Students
We serve roughly 24,000 students at Modesto Junior College, but who are they? Where
do they come from? In this session, we will take a deeper look at the students of
MJC to examine who they are and where they come from. We will also examine college
initiatives.
Learning Objective: Participants will learn important college data. Additionally, will have a general
knowledge of campus initiatives.
Professional Development: How Do I Grow
“I want to perform better in my position.” “I have career aspirations, but don’t know
how to grow and develop.” In this session, we explore the various professional development
resources available beyond attending conferences. We will explore how to have a purposeful
career path that can lead to promotions as well as tips to succeeding in interviews.

Leadership & Beyond
The word ‘leadership’ is often used casually, but what does it mean? In this workshop,
we will examine the basics of leadership and how you can be a leader in your area
and on campus.
Learning Objective: Participants will learn and be able to utilize new techniques for time leadership
and how to apply them.
Measuring Tools
- Participants will take an exam at the start of each seminar on their knowledge in each of the topic being discussed.
- Participants will take an exam at the end of each seminar on their knowledge in each of the topic being discussed.
- Each session will be evaluated by the participants.
